About
I'm a registered patent attorney with a solo patent practice, Searchlight Law PC, which also offers fixed-fee patent services to startups under the Inventrell brand. My work falls into three areas: 1. Patent prosecution: patentability searches, provisional and utility applications, design patents, and prosecution through allowance or PTAB appeal for software, AI, hardware, and other technical companies. I quote fixed fees wherever the scope can be defined. 2. IP counseling: freedom-to-operate, evaluating demand letters and patent assertions before suit, and portfolio and claim strategy. 3. Litigation and litigation support: invalidity and prior-art searches for defense counsel, including claim charts, candidate combinations, and prosecution-history analysis. I also handle Federal Circuit appeals, especially from the PTAB. I've worked all sides of the patent ecosystem. I prosecuted patents at Kilpatrick Townsend for clients including Amazon and Pixar, argued patent cases in court as a senior associate at Orrick, and clerked in the District of Delaware (then the nation's busiest patent court) and at the Federal Circuit (the nation's patent appeals court). Before law school I was an engineer at Microsoft, VMware, and Synopsys (BS EECS, Berkeley; MS ECE, Illinois; JD, Harvard). My practice is AI-native. I've built my own software for everything I do, and I have the experience to know what "good" looks like.
