I'm a trial lawyer in Washington, DC. I run Stanton Law DC out of an office on Capitol Hill, and the practice has two halves. Employment: I represent employees and executives in discrimination and retaliation claims, whistleblower matters, and negotiated exits including severance, separation agreements, and non-compete disputes. A good share of that work resolves before anything is filed, through demand letters and direct negotiation with employer-side counsel. But I'm an experienced litigator and happy to go to trial if negotiations break down. Criminal defense: I represent people under investigation or charged in DC Superior Court and in federal district court—white collar and fraud matters, firearms offenses, and myriad other matters from arrest through trial and sentencing. Also represent Before opening my own firm I was at Quinn Emanuel, spent four years as a public defender in Memphis, TN, ran the criminal defense clinic at Vanderbilt Law School for two years, and spent four years working closely with one of the top trial attorneys in New York. That combination — big-firm complex litigation, clinical teaching, and boutique white collar work — shapes how I take cases now: rigorous on the law, economical with a client's money, and candid about what a matter is actually worth. Most clients reach me at the worst moment of their professional lives: a target letter, an arrest, a termination they didn't see coming. What they need first is an honest read on where they stand. I give that early and directly, even when it isn't what someone wants to hear. And then they need a lawyer to guide them through what is often a perilous path. That's what I do.
